Taylor Swift came out to support Travis Kelce at Sunday’s Kansas City Chiefs game, dressed in the team’s merch — and the NFL star returned the favor by promoting her music with his choice of outfit.
Both while arriving at Arrowhead Stadium and leaving with Swift after the Chiefs’ big win, Kelce wore the aptly named 1989 Bedroom Painting Denim Jacket ($295) and Pants ($285) from KidSuper Studios, seemingly nodding to the Grammy winner’s upcoming “1989 (Taylor’s Version)”.
The denim separates feature painterly prints of female nudes, along with the exact same cream-and-blue color palette used for Swift’s album artwork.
And it didn’t take long for the pop phenom’s fans to connect the dots on Kelce’s game-day duds.
“travis is dropping easter eggs already,” one tweeted, while another joked, “travis trying to get EXTRA points.”
It’s worth noting, however, that “1989” wasn’t always part of the style name for Kelce’s set; in a spectacularly savvy marketing move, KidSuper Studios added it after the athlete stepped out in the look Sunday, and noted the update on its Instagram Stories.
As Swifties know well, the singer’s long been been fond of using fashion to share cryptic clues with her fanbase, and helped fuel romance rumors in early September by sporting a Foundrae pendant set with an opal, which happens to be Kelce’s birthstone.
Speculation that Swift and Kelce were dating began swirling earlier this month, with the Messenger reporting that the duo had been “quietly hanging out” for a few weeks.
To date, neither star has commented on the rumors — although Travis’ brother, Jason, stoked the flames during several recent interviews.
In July, the Chiefs tight end tried to pass Swift a friendship bracelet that spelled out his phone number at one of her Eras Tour shows, as he told Jason on an episode of their “New Heights” podcast, but “she didn’t want to meet.”
Judging by the fact that the “Anti-Hero” singer sat next to Kelce’s mom throughout Sunday’s game — and that she and the football pro may have cleared out a whole restaurant afterwards for their dinner date — it would seem the tide has turned.
